- Characteristics of matter:
o    The structure of an atom (protons, electrons and neutrons).
o    Pure substances: elements and compounds (differences and examples).
o    The periodic table: reading different elements to determine their atomic mass, atomic number, number of protons, number of electrons and number of neutrons.
o    Mixtures: homogeneous and heterogeneous (differences and examples). -  States of matter and their transformations (evaporation, condensation, sublimation and melting examples)
 - Chemical and physical changes of matter:
o  Characteristics of physical changes and examples
o  Characteristics of chemical reactions and examples.
o   Representation of chemical reactions in chemical equations (reactants and products, interpreting coefficients and subscripts).
 - The law of conservation of matter and how to see this in chemical equations.
 - Gas laws:
o   How gases behave if temperature changes (Charles’ law and how to calculate this changes)
o   How gases behave if pressure changes (Boyle’s’ law and how to calculate this changes)
