'Lights and Shades of Science' is an attempt to see through the camera lens the world of science in all its shades. It invites the participants to look at their world from a different perspective which is to take into account the huge impact that the science has had on our world and shoot photographs which give interesting insights into the world of science and the workings of nature.

I.- TOPIC :

Science in action : Capture dramatic and stimulating images of the natural world like animals , plants , scientific phenomenons or explore through your camera the workplaces of scientists, doctors, researchers, technicians and capture a slice of science happening at these places. The image may explain a scientific phenomenon or a process or an event. Images should be taken using standard photographic techniques with digital camera.

II.- CATEGORIES

A. From 5th grade to 6th grade.

B. From 7th grade to 9th grade

C. From 10^th grade to 12^th grade

III.- ENTER CONTEST :

1. Send your picture to scienceais@gmail.com . The pictures should be JPEG files in the highest possible resolution. (color or black and white , photo effects are not allowed)

2. Entrants will be instructed to submit their “Application Form” (registration) at science blog and send it to scienceais@gmail.com

3. Print your picture with the following size : 15 x 21 cm .

4. Put your picture in a thick envelope.

5. Give your picture to your science teacher

IV.- JUDGING TO DETERMINE SEMI-FINALISTS AND WINNERS:

The Entry Requirements and the criteria below will , collectively, be considered the “Criteria” for purposes of e the contest . A panel of representatives of the Science department and an specialist will determine the manner and process by which Eligible Entries are assessed in their sole discretion.

· Evaluation :

A. Scientific Description : outstanding description (Physics, Life Science, Chemistry

B. Scientific Relevance : Describes how photo relates to your life or the importance of your picture

C. Aesthetics : Quality, nice depth of field, pleasing colors, sharp image

The Competition Administrator reserves the right to review all Entries received during the Open Call for Entries and will only consider three Semi-Finalist Entries on the Competition per level.

Competition Dates :

Begins August 16, 2011 at 12:00 AM), and ends on or about September 06 , 2011 at 20:00 PM (“Competition Period”)
